The emissions from combustion are a key concern in lead recycling. Oxy-combustion is an established technology for recycling of lead scrap from batteries and other sources. Not only does it help reduce carbon footprint but also enhances both productivity and fuel savings. The flexibility of adapting this technology with different market conditions will be a vital issue for the future. The presentation will review recent developments in the design and configuration of the general equipment system and the control mechanisms. Specific benefits derived from recently developed burners based on the requirements of lead smelters will be reported. Highlights on how to control the atmosphere of the furnace by using oxy-combustion technology to suit lead melting with optimum yield and improved efficiency will also be discussed. Last but not the least, safety will be the key principle guiding this technology.
