The regulatory pressure to reduce occupational exposure among workers in the lead industry continues. For example, there are proposals in several US states to limit worker blood lead levels to a maximum of 20 micro grams per decilitre or less (equal to 1 micro mole per litre or 200 micro grams per litre). The presentation will provide a brief review of the fundamentals of a blood lead reduction programme that reduces occupational exposure and has resulted in many lead battery manufacturers and lead battery recyclers achieving the proposed new lower levels for lead in the blood of workers.
